Among other things we got to a super (actually Hyper [2]) market. They are just the same everywhere with some different brands and slight details that are off. One of them was having an open table with raw meat - "Das Gesundheitsamt" would cause another lock down for something like that. Also, in between lots of Spam I found the next big thing in the hype cycle after Wavelets might be Cracklets Perhaps Baroness Daubechies [3] has opened a cookie factory. I recommend selecting only functionally required ones and going lite on the Spam Checking out at the supermarket again triggered some German neurosis. Two people, one cashing and the other one packing, but no band and 20 times slower than the one where the Girocard is rejected 10 times at home. But efficiency in that instance can be compensated with manpower, which makes it actually a less stressful and more pleasant experience. After shopping we had Italian food [4] (which was surprisingly good - better than some Germanized Italian restaurants) and a frozen Mango cake [5]. By now I gave up on trying to tell the waiters to give me back a specified amount and keep the rest as tip. Here, they insist on finding the exact number of (almost worthless) coins to give back the change and then take it back as tip. Everything else seems to confuse them a lot. Today it is sunny and we might do exploring as I want to find out how to get to the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center [6] which is supposed to be close by. But the jet lag (which seems to be contagious if you stay up all night keeping others awake) might suggest another day at the food court or at the hotel pool. The hotel also got a bit inspired by Chinese Democracy and has installed body temperature scanners at the entrance. I wonder what happens to people with a fever... Cyberpunk begins to feel terrifyingly real here, but (as it is inescapable anyways) I at the moment just want to file my concerns in /dev/null. Just in the process of writing this, power kept turning on and off, so perhaps dystopia is yet another glitch away for now. For friends and family there there is also a quick snapshot before leaving yesterday: @/private/2023_02_22_spam.html ______________________________________________________________________________ [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SM_North_EDSA [2]: https://www.smsupermalls.com/mall-directory/tenants/smne/sm-hypermarket/ [3]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingrid_Daubechies [4]: https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/italian-restaurant/Sicilian-Roast-North-Towers-846569805697075/ [5]: https://www.contis.ph/stores/details/?code=SNE [6]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninoy_Aquino_Parks_and_Wildlife_Center
